Latest Biometric trends in India_GBS

India has been at the forefront of the technology particularly with the IT revolution ever since the turn of this century. This position also entities India to have some of the most sophisticated technology integrated into its systems in all the sectors. The advanced biometric systems are being used to capture the engagement/production times is one such example. It is estimated to reach USD 2.7 billion by 2019 according to a report on TechSci Research. The trend looks quite interesting.

According to another report on TechSci Research there are five sectors in which the biometric systems have been increasingly adopted and implemented for day to day operations. They are government, banking, energy, consumer electronics and others such as health and hospitality, law enforcement, travel, educational institutions etc. The following graph from the same report reassures the same.

Trends In Biometrics

From the initial days of biometric systems adoption only in the top-level Government establishments and high tech R&D establishments of corporate companies to the present where they are employed even in small to mid-sized companies belonging to other sectors, the systems themselves have seen many technological advancements and innovations regarding hardware and software which have increased their adoption. The active participation of many vendors have significantly reduced the cost of adoption, implementation and continued running of these systems.

Now that the establishments are reaping the benefits of adoption, implementation of biometric systems, few unlikely candidates are also jumping in this bandwagon. These unlikely candidates are the educational institutions, hospitality & healthcare, law enforcement, travel & tourism establishments in India which are very eager to adopt and implement these systems. Given that the customers of these establishments are always on the lookout for modernization, more accurate information, and convenience, they have an incentive to adopt and implement biometric systems for both performance measurement, management, and improvement and to offer a delightful customer experience. The popular demand for the adoption of biometric systems in the other sectors is to capture the engagement/production times which is the simplest measure of productivity and hence a measure of revenue growth.

Apart from this obvious application, the biometric systems are used as floor access differentiators. E.g., when only certain individuals are permitted within a specific area or floors of the buildings, the biometric system can regulate this. There are many other application case studies such as that of integration of these biometric systems with cloud and IoT (Internet of Things) infrastructure to measure various matrices which have made them an invaluable for almost all the establishment in the other sectors.

With continued innovation and active participation of many vendors serving different customers across all the levels, the options of the biometric systems are increasing more than ever regarding the level of sophistication, application, features, and prices. With many disruptions foreseen in the subcontinent in almost all the sectors owing to rapid digitization, we can be excited and hopeful to see biometric systems in many more areas some of which can be completely unexpected.
